Buzzing MTT win

The cash grind was going well. I put in a ton of hours (7 in one day) on Saturday all afternoon then while watching Mcilroy destroy the competition at the US open. I hit a high point of $5500 up on Saturday night from cash games, also cleared the ipad2 (being dispatched from apple this week) and had some rakeback of around $400 - so $5900 up + an Ipad2 was looking like a good month.

Somehow I didn't lose on the golf - a runaway favourite winning a major could have been a massive loss - but I equalised Rory on Thursday night Friday morning and indeed had a great book on who would come 2nd with all bar the top 8 in the betting winning me £10k + and even the favs were small winners.

I decided to relax by taking a night off from cash tables while watching my hapless golfers (4 of my £10k + crew got down below 20/1 but it wasn't to be with a tie for 3rd (runner up in the without Mcilroy book) the best they could muster. Was a little dull as the TV pics were way behind the betting so I cracked open a few MTT's including the Sunday million. All in all 2 x £215 1 x $55 and 1 x $100 on merge. I cashed small in the $55 at about 11pm after donking out of the Million and hilo events on stars earlier. Left with only the $100,000 Guaranteed on Lock poker I didn't hold out much hope with only an average stack and 160 left out of 750 starters. However at 4.52am after some decent hands a hell of allot of holds and a few suck outs later and I am now $20,000 richer....

Was a bit awkward 3 handed ($20k 1st, $12k 2nd and $6.5k 3rd) with me on 1mill, crazy loose Chip leader on 2 mill and other guy hanging in at 250k-500k for a while but when I re raised CL's raise all in with AQ and he snap called 77 the site threw up the glorious AKQ flop and I was huge Chip leader...... when I got heads up it was 3mill to 750k and i took it down confidently....

Ps, 2 days after my last update had my biggest ever horse win when I nailed the tricast at 4000/1 on the Belmont Stakes a week past Saturday night. Also had the forecast and won on the outright by just going for the big outsiders as the track resembled a muddy swimming pool and upsets were on the cards!

All in all a good few weeks to head to USA with ---- might even hit a Vegas event now!!!

June Update

Started quite promisingly with a small profit and plenty hands then 2 days of depressing losses taking me back past even.

Monday night was good though as won $2500 in a 2.5 hour session.....

Things I have learned are that the quality of opponents varies dramatically based on time now that US are barred from Stars.... Merge network seems easy as players are too loose but I am still only break even there and hands wont be a problem.

Targets

1, Play 20,000 hands - Played 5,750 already so this will be easy as only played part time so far!!

2, Profit $5,000 - Well I'm half way there so looking good - only really played 4 days properly so should be OK with this based on average running and no tilting..

3, Vip/Rake - Made 3000 points on stars and am 1/3 of the way to the ipad promotion (and 35% rakeback) so on target here.....

All looking good had I not just booked flights to New York - (there was a deal on £299!) so gonna visit my brother 24/6 to 18/7 for some free golf..... hopefully I can get all my targets sorted before that but will need to keep playing while over there...

June Targets

Well hello again..... 1 post every 18 months... well at this rate I have less than 50 posts left before I die!

Things have been very up and down since I last posted. I have probably played less than 20,000 hands of poker in the last 18 months , just playing occasionally when i felt like it. Things have been on a giant rollercoaster in the last 15 months, starting at Cheltenham races Mar 10 where I was getting pretty poor to go on a massive betfair heater hitting a high in mid Nov 10. Since then I have managed to lose nearly all of it..... we are talking 6 figures $$ wins and losses... now that's some swing...

Anyway as I have been hemorrhaging cash hand over fist in the last 6 months I have decided to knuckle down at poker and set some targets, as I don't think the world of real work look too good at present!

I am going to post all the way through June and hopefully by posting it will keep my on track to hit the targets I will detail below. Will be playing only hilo omaha. Will be looking to update every 2 or 3 days with mainly number based posts...... there probably wont be anything too interesting for the average reader...sorry.....

Targets June 2011

Hands - play 20,000 hands of hilo omaha at levels up to 2/4. (Reg players wont think this allot but the games dont run too often and 20,000 is a reasonable target)

Profit - The key will be to make a profit before rakeback/VIP bonuses etc. I am looking for $5,000 + but this will depend on whether the higher stake games run and if I run good on the bigger stakes games.

VIP/Rake - Looking to get my pokerstars back towards supoernova as those VIP points rack up then effectively giving you around 33% however I'm on gold at present and that's around 15%! November was a funny month.

Guys that play cash games will be used to those kind of dips. But I hate them losing $5000 in 3 days crushed me for a while.

Managed to put the hands in though 25,000.

Playing a few tables this evening and Greg Raymer joins in the table. I am already on the verge of tilt as had to lost flips + all the players are actually good on my tables for a change which is annoying and Raymer sits down as if just to rub it in....

Played for 16 hours yesterday!

Amount of hands played isn't going to be a problem.... the win rate might be a problem though. In the end yesterdays session went well but only because one player at the end went mental and dropped a grand to the table...

Yesterday I played 2669 hands and won $1705. But that was the exception as had had a few days off before that and was reading water in the days before that.
For the whole of November I have played 11,799 hands and I am ahead $5,069.

Will be putting in the hours for the rest of the month so hopefully we can get near to having $20,000 online before xmas.

LOL at my laziness since March. Was running my stats (see below) this month when I decided to have a look at my Hilo stats this year broken down by month. There are some excuses about my lack of hands from July onwards (i decided PLO was the way forward - my pokertracker stats say it wasn't.) but even then its embarrassing how lazy I have been at times this year. Well onwards and upwards.

This month I have played about 7000 hands so far and am in front about $3500. So its quite a good month i suppose. Still on target for my 25,000 hands by xmas. the hands below are directly from pokertracker and don't take into account any rakeback , bonuses etc. so all in all it looks like a good(ish) poker year. However betfair has been appalling, despite some big wins on the golf I am well down this year again and judging by my card deposits and withdrawals i should just give the whole thing up whatsoever.

I'm in America just now visiting my brother and playing golf. But I have actually been playing a bit of poker online for the 1st time since April. Unsurprisingly borne out of a dwindling amount of cash but I am actually enjoying it. Been playing on stars only (as in the states) so been playing Hilo PLO and quite enjoying myself.

Spending cash is fun but getting a job wont be so its given me a real kick in the stones. Hopefully I wont grind away only to go back to my lazy habits again once I have a comfortable amount of cash behind me again. My issue with regard to blogging is that I have no plans to play any live tourneys, go anywhere exciting (poker related) or play high (ish) stakes. So I cant see anything being to interesting to the general reading public (whoever you are if you still read this). Also I will be playing PLO HILO which most people don't really know so even the hands wont be interesting and max 2/4 so the stakes wont be too interesting....

Anyway I intend to use this as diary/motivational tool. So don't expect anything too exciting for the rest of this year.

At present I am in the States (Georgia). the weather is nice and my brother works as an Assistant Pro at a good golf club so has been lots of free golf. He also lives in a massive house (5 bedrooms) in a nice area. Makes you realise what you can do with your easily made poker money......

Anyway my target is to put in 20,000 PLO Hilo hands between 1/11 and 25/12. I had around $2500 lying around in stars which I have grinded up to $5000 + I will deposit some cash in ipoker say $1000 when I get back. so my target is to get that $6000 up to at least $14,000 but hopefully $20,000.

Update I played 1450 hands today for a profit of $1,600 so a good start.

I will start blogging again soon as I am playing a fair bit online again - mainly Omaha hilo games. Been up to a fair bit since I last posted - been to Hong Kong, Barbados and Spain. Not much on the poker front apart from have a minuscule % of a massive poker spin up....

Cash games and random prop bets

Played the tennis match - 1st set was reasonably close (a bit too close for comfort as i had myself down as 1/5 fav) and I won on a tiebreak but set 2 was over very quickly 6-1. I looked up the atp rankings and I have earned about a much from tennis this year as the UK number 8..... and i didn't have to travel to Kenya and Uzbekistan to do it! so that was fun and good... i felt a bit bad for Ben as he was so confident and was gutted when he lost (not 4 the money - that would have been why i was gutted) but for the loss.

Anyway with that cash in my tail I decided to bite the bullet and pay Chris the weight loss bet at £750 instead of the full £1150.... a bit of a blow that one but i really think 3st in 3 months would be just about impossible - but the fast bastard has only eaten cupasoup type things for the last 8 weeks... ffs nice will power well done Chris... he only has 8lbs to go in 5 weeks so it is a £400 saving for us as I am sure he was like 1/50 to do it.

As for poker - I mentioned in the last post that I have hardly been playing online. Indeed since (and even b4) the wsop this year I have mainly been playing 1 day live cash game at the maybury Edinburgh and that's about it. The game I have been playing is dealers choice but the games are usually 6card omaha hilo and superstud (7 card stud hilo - where u get 5 cards to start from and u must pick 3). The games are so much fun to play and we usually start at 8pm 7 handed and by the end of the night there is usually about £8,000 - £10,000 on the table! Its a very big £1/£2 game. The sit down is £200 and if anyone fancies a game in Edinburgh just drop me an email.

The problem with blogging and playing a live cash game is that I know and like the players I play with so I am not going to post anything interesting or insulting about them, so the only thing would be the occasional hand history which is boring and it wont be any good hands as wont want to post hands where friends I know have lost.

So it looks like this blog isn't going anywhere fast. Unless i start playing online again - which I certainly don't play too until Jan at least. (I'm off to Hong Kong for a week in mid Dec) the only poker I will be playing is DC Cash games so if anyone fancies playing with me then email or head along to maybury Edinburgh on a Tuesday.

Prop bets, an annoying frog and cash games

What have I been up to, well all of the above + some Betfair betting and a minuscule amount of online.

Prop Bets
This comes under 2 categories, 1 weight loss and 2 Tennis.

Weight loss is very poor as we have a 1100 to 750 bet that a guy from the maybury cant lose 3st in 3 months. He only has 10lbs to go in 5 weeks!
Tennis looks much better as I beat Ben (b2bullets) in a £200 match giving him 2/1 (he has been getting allot of lessons) immediately after we decided to have an even money £500 bet in 1 months time and he is allowed to have his coach present. The match happens in 2 hours and another £500 has been added plus £1000 or so side bets - should be fun. I am very confident but oddly enough so is he!

Ireland
I briefly mentioned I was in Ireland a month ago for some festival or other. I went over with Dean (deanosupremo on stars) hes a maniac and will almost certainly upset someone at the poker table into punching them at some point but he amuses me. Highlight was probably playing 200/400 HORSE in the room, think i was in for 10% and dean had never played the games before lol. He won as he runs like god.

Live tournaments went pretty bad - main event - cant remember but i think i tried a move on a horrific calling station..... details are all gone now!

Middle tourney was a 500 freezout - lol just checked on hendon mob it was a 200rebuy! - played this one well and after doubling up with 99 v AQ on from dean on a table he was controlling I had a big stack with about 50 left.

Strolled to the last 2 tables where there was 16 or something getting paid. I was lying about 3rd in chips and there are 5 stacks under 3 BB's when some kerfuffle happened at the other table it meant a 20 minute break but we had to stay at the same table, the outcome of this was that everyone wanted to do a saver blinds 4/8 i have 130k lying 3rd and there are 5 stacks of 20k or less........ seriously do you think i am doing a saver... everyone else agreed and i had to veto it - flipper also backed me up but after I had to veto it on my own - so I look like the bad guy.

Anyway we start back and with my table having 3 stacks of less than 15k now I raise again on the cutoff. The BB with a 33k stack moves all in for 13k extra with the monstrous A9 off obviously it beats my AA but its really irrelevant what I had its such a bad play! i mean the jump from 17th to 16th was 1200 or so! incredible... anyway , and the whole point of posting that sorry bad beat story is that just after that lovely bad beat I get Pascal Peraut (sic) playing his appalling weak/tight game come over to me and say "zat is what zhu get when zhu donut agree to za deeel" LOL I mean LOL are you serious? You are a professional and you cant understand why a big stack doesn't want to do a saver and prolong the bubble.... I didnt event say anything back as i was open mouthed incredulous from my bad beat and his crazy bad chat!

Anyway I made FT and came 7th or something when I pushed 12bb from UTG+2 with 88 and was called on the SB but the same AJ clown with A10 and he obviously hit! I don't mind losing to this guy as he was just a local young guy with no clue enjoying himself - appalling play but its his cash and it is to be excpected but I was raging all night at perraut's comments - what a clown and it was embarrassing to watch him fold his way down to 1m (1 orbits blinds) 3 times and call bets then!! lol u are a real star!

Bad week

Firstly lets do the end of the hand....... obv I win as I probably wouldn't post it if I spunked away £1450 on 1 hand! I called and opponent tabled AAQQ82 double suited including both the black suits! Turn comes a red 5 to give me about 13 outs and i collect on the river of 4c.

I ran the hand above past a few people. The consensus was that my hand would be about 42-48% against AAxxxx hands. Also B is pushing all in on any flop so i then get to chuck my hand on the few occasions I know its drawing dead. All in all I don't think the play is too bad if even - EV at all.. However I give the fact that it is high variance as Tillerman said while we had dinner!

So that was my 1 piece of good fortune this week.

The rest of the week was bad. Tuesday/Wednesday I played well at the tournament and lost all races however well tilted in my favour they were. I also dropped 800 at the cash game playing well on Tuesday and was in for £1000 playing a £1350 stack when I ran the nuts flush into a straight flush when a spade hit the river! So lost £1000 then. At least I was playing well though.

However all that changed on Thursday when I played the £500 event and played appallingly throughout. Funnily enough I put people on the correct hands all evening and made stupid plays which rightly didn't work all day! Anyway £1000 event tonight and I have had a day break and feel like playing well!!

Challenge is still sitting in the background... I haven't been playing on ipoker this last 2 weeks though as wasn't playing well at sng's and I am off to the states in a few weeks where I cant get ipoker so might as well wait until after that. Anyway I had $6000 sitting in my crypto account so I decided to play some omaha. I dont have the new poker tracker installed so I don't have any details on BB rate but I have been running crazy good and am up to $19,000 in the account so its all good. I will continue to play on that account for a while until after America (what are the odds on me going to vegas while I am there!)

Anyway reason for this post at 4am is that i am just back from the Maybury where this crazy 6 card Omaha hand went down.
it is 3 handed and the players are as follows.
Me - Square for the night sitting on £1430 stack
B - up about £1000 on the night playing a good aggressive solid game as usual he has me covered.
S - Through from GLW for the festival and playing his usual good solid game. He is buying in for £200 a time like most and only has £200 on front after losing 2 buy ins.

I am BB - I am dealt 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (Triple suited)

2 limps to me and I raise the pot £15. S calls £15 and B then sets off with a reraise of £60. I am happy to play this hand for £60. so I call.

However S now raises all in to £200. B calls and reraises £500.
What do you do with my hand? 5678910 (triple suited)

Anyway wouldn't be a very good story if I folded - I take a while and call after counting how much I have behind. (£730)

Hello my small dwindling band of readers.

With only cash in my Crypto account and no real passion for playing poker I have mainly been playing a great wee online game called settlers (www.jsettlers.com ).

However after having a look at my finances (which are dwindling (that really is a great word) as quickly as blog readers) I decided to set myself a challenge and pull the finger out.

The "you are meant to be a poker pro and your quite good at sng's so play them you lazy bastard" Challenge....... Starts today

With the $2107 in my Ipoker account I intend to get up to $30,000 using decent BRM playing only sng's (20 buy ins or more) and mtt's where I have 100 buy ins. But mainly SNG's.

I will be graphing my progress here and I will offer you a chance to win $100 if you guess the date I make the 30k landmark on... lets hope for about 2 months time.

I haven't really played any poker since I got back up until this week.

Happened this morning while I lazed in my bed in Edinburgh catching up with missed TV from my 3 weeks away. My mate Dave texted me last night to say Marty Smyth was at the final table of the $10,000 Omaha. I had a look at the chip counts and he was well placed in 4th, dropped him a GL text and then went to bed. He was even better placed as chip leader out of 5 when I woke up this morning at 6am and I have spent the last 3 hours on edge watching the players fall as Marty stayed in control. It ended with the hand below 5 mins ago.

Peter Jetten has the button, and he limps in. Marty Smyth raises the pot, and Jetten comes along.
The flop shows up 10c, Qc 9h .

Smyth bets the pot, 600,000. Jetten announces, "I raise the pot." Before he even has the chips out of his stack, Smyth moves all in, and Jetten quickly calls.

When the stacks are counted down, it's Peter Jetten who is covered, and he is all in at risk of elimination. With a mountain of chips in the middle of the table, the hands are turned up:
Jetten: Ks, Jd, 2s, 3c
Smyth: Kc, Jc, Js, Qd

The showdown bring the entire crowd to their feet and cues a rowdy chorus of cheers from the two opposing sections of fans. Jetten and Smyth have both flopped their straight, but Smyth is freerolling with a redraw to a straight flush!

The suspense in the air is tangible, and the cheering becomes a wave of noise that engulfs the whole room. The Irish side of the room cheers, "Club, club, club!..." while the Canadians across the stage simultaneously chant, "Brick, brick, brick!"

With everyone still on their feet and the noise almost overwhelming, the dealer burns and turns fourth street: 7d

The Canadian section erupts even louder when they see that brick peel off. Their guy has to fade just one more card to chop the pot and go back to square one.

The crowd leans forward on their feet as the dealer knocks the table, burns and turns the final card:6c!

A huge roar follows from the entire room. Marty Smyth nails an incredibly profitable club on the river, making him the winning flush and earning him the title and the bracelet! We truly could not imagine a more thrilling finish to our event!

Great news and couldnt have happened to a nicer bloke. I was out with these guys exactly a week ago for a meal, Marty, his GF his 2 mates Dave, Kp and Rob and he really is a top bloke. I know he was keen to get a good result for his new sponsors Boyle Sports and they really have hit the Jackpot with this result! Also I am sure he will treat Rob and KP to a free night at the strippers that they and their wallets so richly wish for....

Played like 1 tourney 200 plo at Cesar's - got all in 4 huge pot and beat.

busted my ankle badly 1 week ago - thought it was broken but its just a bad sprain so been walking round like a cripple for a week..... even funnier than my crippleishness is the fact that I did it playing golf on the driving range trying to hit a happy Gilmore type shot - me = spastic

Lost 2k on Romania - Holland are so incompetent - they deserve to get beat by Italy in semis as they should have carved the game.....

Lost 2k on my outright boom with Croatia +5k going out and Turkey (was +3k) laying them at 500/1 when behind to win 30!! LOL i AM HUGE FISH

Actually had a good time otherwise - been out twice had fun etc = its all good... in Pallazzo just now -- nice pace but moving to bling villa tomorrow.

Played the WSOP $1500 PLO event yesterday. No Good. There really is no reason why you start with so few chips. If you were to start with 10k chips it would probably only last an extra

3-5 levels at the end. Anyway as you can guess it didnt go great.

Level 1

Lost 10% of my chips on hand 1. 757 flop - I have a weak 7 and wait until the turn to bet it. The river brings a flush and straight and I am no good.

The rest of the level went OK - I actually played well without hitting any flops whatsoever. I was quite happy with my table as they were playing quite predictable and very cagey. Ideal for me - I know you aint going to get anywhere laying scared at 30bb PLO! Finished Level on 3300.

Level 2
Table breaks and the whole of our table gets moved. There are 700 players left in the tournament at this point and 3 of our table gets moved to the same 9 man table........ wait a minute! 1/3 of their table is out and i haven't seen a pot over 2000 points! So there must be something or someone doing mad things on the table - but who? Well it wont be seat 3 he looks familiar with the words fish and devil on his knuckles!

So someones playing bad? or have the bad players been knocked out? Well before I have a chance to find out I raise with my best hand so far 67810 1 suit (I have had AAJJ but all unsuited). However devilfish reraises to 1000 just under 1/3 of my stack? Should I call? I guess he has AAxx and call. Flop - a horrible K92 2hearts (I have none). He goes all in and I have to fold. He shows AA.

Some hands happen in between - including a classic call for his whole 1200 stack with 8872 "its the 1st pair I have seen all day" DF AAxx loses to it when an 8 is the first card out. He takes it surprisingly well. - most f them show appalling play.

Then I get AAK10 1 suit - I am playing 1600 and can raise it to 500 by the time it get to my sb - should I? Anyway I do, 1 caller DF and see an OK rainbow flop of 4810. I get it in and DF calls saying you are in front at present. I am but his 89J5 has plenty outs. The next card out is my 2nd worse one a Q and I am drawing slim and miss.

Things I learned

Devilfish was actually well behaved and actually came accross as a decent guy - which I hear hes not! The standard of play at PLO was poor with players making many mistakes. I probably should have folded the 1st hand re devilfish as there were far more incompetent chumps to take chips from at that stage - however I dont think the call is very -ev.

Rest of the day

Wet shopping as I only packed a little clothes and will just buy them over here. That went well and I bust my previous sunglasses record by $50 paying $70 for a pair. garanteed they will be fucked in a week!

Got a cash xchange rate of 1.94 at luxor desk. The real international xchange rate is 1.95 so I am delighted with that. However I soon felt really bad when I spunked away $1200 at blackjack trying to win $100 back that I had lost on stupid fruit machines.

I really could have done allot with $1300 hence the title of the post. I would rather have hired a few little people and set up a wrestling match or something for that cash.... now that would have felt like money well spent.

Anyway watching Portugal v Czech here and have layed £300 on port as czechs look good (famous last words). Also had to play on crypto this morning as ipoker doesn't work here - Won $1000! at £50 sng's so back in a good mood.

Will have a few days of binions/venetian type events then maybe attack the $2000 PLH/PLO event.

Wow that flight was gruelling!

Well that what happens when you manage to get a flight to the other side of the world for £336! Stopped in Amsterdam for 1 hour and then Minneapolis for 6 hours - I have a friend there so we did beers. Arrived Vegas 20 hours after I set out!

Off to sleep now. May play the $1500 event on the 10/6 but will see how I feel when I wake up.

Went to the maybury last night - decided I better have some practice on the tournament front so played the £30r as well as the cash game afterwards (probably the biggest reg £1/£2 game in Britain!)

Tourney went very bad at first having 3 rebuys for 1500 points - a surprisingly playable figure with blinds at 25/50 for the 1st 90 mins. I then had no further rebuys and finished on 1100 chips sort of giving in and waiting for the 3000 point top up. So approaching the start of the knockout stages I had only 1/2 average at 4100. With only 3 prizes and 3300 in the prize fund I didn't hold out much hope. However 3 hours later I did a 5 way deal as Chip leader and took £900 / $1800. Nice little bonus in front of wsop and pays my 1st entry fee on the 10/6!

Cash game - as mental as ever with 6k on the table on front of 7 people I managed to win £500 to add to my English notes fund for Vegas..... any decent ideas re exchanging to $$ would be welcome..

Also on a pleasing note - The guy that got shot on Tuesday actually came in last night to say hello to his mates who pay a cash game on a Thursday. Amazingly he looked fine with just a wee hole/nic behind his ear!

Been on the go allot the last few weeks...

Was in Paris for Roland Garros last week and to lay some live poker. Roland Garros was good but it rained too much so we didn't catch as much tennis as hoped. Live poker was bad! I lost 2500 euros mainly in 1 hand where i was playing a 1600 stack with 260 in prelop the flop came 662 at 5 card omaha. The preflop raiser bets pot. what do I do with JJ679?

Not really played any poker over the last wee while. Only raked $4000 last month as I just gave up after a $2500 first week! Made some money but not great amounts. I have played about 3 sng's this month of June and won a $500 one so about $2000 up! i only played it as I was £800 down on eng v Trinidad (How bad were they at defending!) but at least I won it!

Anyway - off to Vegas on Monday so will try to work out a schedule of what I will play. & when I do you guys will be the first to know!

I am now 30! Thats a bit scary but never mind I dont feel old at all. Had a great little party with loads of my friends on saturday so all in all times are good. My girlfriend Karyn as well as getting me a trip to Hong Kong she also managed to bake a massive (poker) cake and get it to the venue without me noticing - mighty impressive due to my flat only having 6 rooms.

Other things. I came home with 10500 euros from my trip to Paris 2 weeks ago went over with 2500.. Long story of how I got there, and the cards that happened but I started 3 times and never managed to finish it. sorry.

Played about 50 sng's in the ast 3 weeks! lol

Lost a few K online at omaha won a few k at sng's so been static for a while.

Played a few times live in edinburgh - basically broke even so no excitement there.

I am actually back in aris just now for 2 days for Roland Garros but its raining so thats not good. Also have a trip to La managa booked for thursay until Tuesday.

Then I am back for 1 week and its off to Vegas for 1 month. - Soap - I will be selling some shares. I will post details here but email me if you wish in meantime.

Doing well in the cash games. Won 1900 yesterday from 1 hand of Omaha mainly.

Today has been a pretty ropey day up until 90 mins ago.

Broke even in sng's but was on minor tilt due to cpnection issues.

Played Omaha on ipoker very badly. Lost 400 + 500 +800 and then on my last hand 600 more!

Watch rangers game in bar with lots of yanks talking about football things -which was funny.

Got to aviation club at 11pm and there was a big waiting list for dealers choice game. So I lost 500 at blackjack.

Then I played Omaha ok but lost 800 and eventually moved to the dealers choice game and sat with 500. All the big stacks 7k and 10k left after an hour when I was sat on 1000. I was quite tired but there was the guy next to me who was an outrageous station so I had to stay.
I ground it up to €1500 then I can only explain it as the table went donation mental and it was all in my direction. 3 hands I had nuts 1 way be was worried about being quartered and twice I scooped and once I halved.

I am now sitting at the table with €5500. 1 of the decent players just busted we are left with mr calling station. The cheif mentalist in my upswing. A little gnome like man who has 2k. Sideshow bob - has 2k and is baaad. A decent player. I am tired but I can't leave!!!!!!!

1 massive hand me a234k double suited 5 hilo Omaha. Flop 7810. 2 clubs in which I hold nut draw.
I bet 200 on the flop and am called 4 times!!!!

Been away in Perthshire relaxing all weekend. Its been nice.

Not played any poker until last night when I played some MTT's badly and cost myself $1000.

Well its nearly time to think about Vegas. I am really unsure about what I will play if anything this year -my MTT game is in great shape but with my conservative bankroll management I really dont think anything is really viable in wsop terms. I may just go and hang out and play at teh venetian for a month! So in order to get some funds together quicksmart I am going to go back to my roots and leave the omaha for a few months. The Scottish guys headed home on saturday morning so I kicked about in Nottingham by myself all day -nice place! Anyway got bored of the cinema (21 - read the book - the film was boring) and headed to Dusk Till Dawn to play some dealers choice. Had loads of banter with Mccool (u still owe me £50 u tight Irish Fucker) and was up £200 playing a £1300 stack when I got rolled up aces at superstud - managed to get all the chips in after 5 cards unfortunately micks cards were 367 and he had a sneaky 45 underneath so I lost a £2800 pot as I never paired up to get 1/2. The game was not too tough that night. 1 Player who hit and ran was especially bad !

Sun -
Played well for the first 2 hours to get down from 45 to 26. I obviously got JJ beaten by A5 all in pre and the hand which led to my downfall. Me playing 125k Gimac raises in cutoff to 9k i repop it to 29k on the button and the looose loose loose BB goes all in for 63k. I obv am not folding my 1010 there but its no match for his HUGE AK (AK is the nutz). This tilts me a bit but I actually get back to 100k when the AK boy trys to reraise me on a raggy board - I am holding AA so go all in and he mucks imm.

We take a break with me 2nd on my table and on 105k. MR AK is the CL on my table and 1st hand back its my button.
I go 4 with 7.
He reraises to 25k
I go all in.
He Obv call with AA!

I miss (i really dont hit! - apart from against some woman from leeds who I beat 4 times in decent pots on day 1!) and feel v pissed off.

However i dont know if the all in push is bad? The guy had been reraising all day so was very loose. I think he folds anything below JJ there so my 4 bet maybe isn't too bad EV (still annoying though)

Not played much. Got a wee run going on ipoker and my balance is at 4200 from about a grand. I also have balances of 3000 and 5400 on 2 other eurosites and a bundle in betfair so will see how I get on MTT-ing and omahaing for the next month.

Played the tougest cash game in Edinburgh this year yesterday. I was at mafews house watching the football and generally pissing about when I decided to leave to go to the cash game at the maybury. Mafews and Ben (probably the tightest toughest cash game player around) decided they were bored and headed up with me! Doh - way to make a normal game v v hard.

Anyway I was playing bad and tilting a bit (I had lost £1000 on the football with that last minute goal) when i started to play a bi better and get cards. Playing a £1200 stack I get dealt 3 Kings in superstud. (superstud is 7 card stud hilo where you choose your starting hand from 5 cards dealt). My next card is then a K giving me quads! Wow. But what made the hand even better was that another guy managed to fin quad Queens and the guy chasing the low missed so I scooped an outrageous £3000 pot at 1/2! Thanks for picking superstud Derek!

I am lying in 5th with 83900! I played great for 4 hours then a bit shit to be honest for the next 3 then got it back together for the last 2 (its a really long 11 hour day with breaks).

Will post a proper update if I get time. Should be about £120k in the prize fund with 45 of us shooting for it. Lets see what kind of bad luck can befall me!

I find myself in Nottingham this week.

Played the gala casinos (terrible side event structure) £200 game with 132 players (22 reserves of which I was number 21) so a decent prize pool.

As I was number 21 I played 3 hands which I folded b4 the break. so the first level I play with my 7500 stack was 200/400! Played 1 hand well calling with 4th pair twice against v loose player and was up to 12,000.

Got AA and raised from UTG no callers and was still around 12k when a medium loose player opens for 1300 I call on the button with KK (what a tricky trickster I am!). Flop 345 rainbow. He leads out 3500 I reraise a big pile of yellows which amounted to all bar 10% of my chips. He goes all in. I call and he turns over JJ. Obviously the turn card is a J and I do my best poker robin hood impression of giving the poor players some chips!

Anyway the 1 brightside of this 90% beat was that at least it was early in the tourney this time! So we headed off to dusk till dawn and I won £800 at teh dealers choice game while trying to wind up mick mccool!!

Off to play the main event the £500 game today. GL me!

Well I wasn't doing this last week but I should have been. I thought I had taken the horrible beats really well in the Irish open and San remo ept's and I did, but underneath monster tilt was just lurking!

Well if monster tilt doesn't appear when you get beaten as 82% favourite, 2 weeks out of 3, in the biggest tournaments of your life, for 16 buy ins worth and 8 buy in s worth of chips respectively, approaching the bubble, which amounts to about 80,000 euros worth of EV, (ie my whole bank roll!) both situations where the other player has committed his chips 1st and all you can do is call..... when is it going to happen!

Anyway now I have that paragraph off my chest I will go through my tilt and then some fun things I have been doing!

Tilt - Approached quickly from behind last Tuesday. Manifested itself in the form of random -ev gambling quite heavily (roulette, Horses etc) its never good when you are collecting £3000 from Freddie Williams in the last race of the day and you are still over £3000 down! After that £3000 win at musselburgh the tilt eased off and the aftermath was a £7000 ish loss in 3 days! Not playing any poker - well apart from the catalyst to the whole thing which was an appalling call by Chris at 6 card omaha that cost me £300 in the last hand of the evening at the maybury.

My MTT game is absolutely top notch at teh moment! The good things about the last 3 tourneys was how well I played and my ability to switch it down a gear when needed - something I have been lacking in in the past. Anyone who was at any of my Irish Open tables would have saw a master class in poker, the 1st san remo table was just as good. However I played well at the 2nd table and then just pretty good the rest of the tourney as things got tougher I played v v v tight.
Been playing a wee bit online (just finished taking 2nd in a $100 mtt on ipoker just 150 players but still good for $2500) and although no big scores evening MTT's accross the euro sites looks to be the way forward.

2nd best game ever I have attended was on Saturday as my good friend Gus (the guy that made the top gun spoof poster) is a huge Queen of the South fan. He took a group of 12 of us along to Hamden to watch his team for the first time in 50 years in a semi final. They won 4-3 despite losing teh lead 3 times in what was the best match at hampden since Dundee UTD and Motherwell drew 8 all or something about 15 years ago. Great match and I look forward to teh final.

This avoided my tilt somehow and I manoeuvred my book well. Laying woods at 6/4 and 3/1 at teh right times and not laying flesh at all. so I approached the final day

I am out as you may have guessed from the headline.

Doubled up after 1 orbit from 15k to 30k (ave about 38k). Button raised to 2800 I pushed for 15k and he called (terrible call IMO) with A5. My KQ was looking bad when the door card was an A but it was followed by 10J for the nutz.

I then played about 3 pots in 4 hours (all reraise all in ) with such monsters as 88, 99, Q2! Both my tables were v v tough so I just sat tight. Moved between 30k and 40k for nearly 4 hours before finding KK with a raise and reraise on front on my I had no fold equity and that was a shame as I would rather not see KK v QQ. Flop obviously contained a Q and I was out in 88th place with 72 paying!

Please god no - please dont make me turn them over - bad things just happen! Who are the 82% of people who get their pair over pair to stand up??

I won a small pot when I c-bet 500 into a 900 pot and he moved all in for 3000 I had AcJc on a 9c10c 2s board he had 910.

I then lost 4 in a row all ins when short stacks moved in on me and I called getting decent odds (I had usually raised first) I was 40% 35% 30% 15% in these ones so 1 would be nice! but no.

Anyway the real killer was while playing an average 28k stack I get QQ on the sb and UTG+1 had mysteriously pushed all in for 12500 (bb800) I take my time and call and he shows 77 and 2nd card out was a 7. FFS! The 3rd and 5th cards were J and K just to rub it in!

Anyway Back to the whole story the abve bad beat was with 40 mins to go and I didnt really recover and finished on 16,300 - average is about 34k.
This doesnt tell the whole story.

Table 1
So easy - % italians and 3 scandis - I crushed this table and had them all in my pocket. Didnt even play mega aggressive and finished with 33k (ave 13500) after 4 levels!

Table 2
Another very good table and I got up to 40K but had ahiccup after i raised with K8 and got put all in getting 2/1 (I nearly folded as I had a gd tight table image) however I called and an 8 on teh flop meant I was ahead for oh 3 seconds A turn and I lose a small pot (6k). However I then made a move on the same guy and he called with 1010 and my Q8 was no good. Then got bluffed after I check raised a 2,4,10 flop with top pair by the old Italian fishy mcfish. The turn brought an Ace and I checked to him and he represented it (fuck me the guy could hvae anything and he bet 6k at it - pot was 8k)so I folded and he showed a live flush draw. hmmmm.

Bluffed liz liu a beauty (she is really pretty in real life unlike most of these so called 'hot poker chicks') me C-bet her raise - me small reraise - her fold over pair me muck!
2 hands later I raise from early and get shoved all in by BB for 5800 more with 1750x2 + 1000 dead money its a tight decision with Js10s. I call as I am due one! I wasnt he had KK and i lost a nasty wee pot but was consoled by the look on liu's face as she looked like she was going to be sick when she saw my hand! lol

Anyway - Finished on 16,300 - how shit is that from having 2.5x average of 40k after 5 levels! Bloody 77!

Not sleeping great due to only having 3 hours sleep last night and flying out to Nice. I should have stayed up later this evening!

Just looking through pokertube to see if I can find anything interesting to watch. This video is a bit sik! Anyway reason I posted is I would love to watch the whole Irish Poker champs as I was at the TV table for 30 mins with Luske and Brindley and would be interested to see if I got on it! Any ideas where I can find it>? It was on RTE2 earlier this year.

Talking of RTE their coverage of the Irish open was v v good. Ciaran Olearly is fantastic on the commentary (Devilfish was horrible of course but they binned him after 20 mins). So funny to hear Olearly's accent talking about da snowmen when picking up 88 and also he actually was the best I have heard at articulating the action and still being funny.

Anyway its noy 6.30am back for a few ours sleep and I will be grand to destroy my San Remo field! :-)

PokerStars is hosting a welcome party for EPT San Remo at the spectacular Victory Morgana Bay club on San Remo seafront from 7.45pm until late on March 31. Hmm - I fancy going to this (in 10 mins time) but I am really tired and am playing day1a tomorrow, so looks like I will have to give it a miss. The siktilt guys are there so would have been fun. However I am not a fan of having 1 or 2 beers - I like to drink alot on the occassions I do drink!

BTW I came 5th in the manchester event below £5800 not bad cash but I didnt play very aggressive at the final table and guess what? the man that did won it. hmmmm another missed opportunity in a year with lots of cashes but no big scores yet. Lets hope that all changes tomorrow in this lovely town.

I am in Manchester playing the gsnp thingy. I qualified on mansion and their rep has been hanging around the last few days getting me drinks and food etc so that's been nice! I have played day 1a and I finished with 43k chips average 24k. Back to this event on Saturday at 4pm. Despite the numbers being less than they hoped "we advertised a 4 day festival and we will have to play one" So we finished at 23:00 last night! I raise on the cut off +1 to 2100 and mad Turk moves all in. He says he will show and I pack the usually dominated AJ - He shows J9! - Good speech play by him but I am always folding Aj there as its shit and am really cursing myself on the extra 400 i lost by making my raise too big.

Fireworks - Add the cunting Swiss to the list of people I can fall out with.
Playing a 5600 stack blinds 400/800 (160 players left 54 seats) I am utg and raise to 2200 with A9. The only stack at the table who I have covered moves all in for 5100. Fold fold fold fold. Me. Well I am not happy as A9 ain't in good shape v anything. So I pick up my cards and switch them about in my hands holding them towards me (we are heads up and hes all in). I do this for 40 secs and decide to call (I think I was 95% to call when I started doing this anyway).

He turns the 77 over and I say good I am in decent shape. He says nothing. I turn my hand over A9 and he then looks bad and says he wants my hand dead as I showed the guys beside me the hand!! What a cunt. This is one of my personal pet poker hates stroke pullers.......

I calmed down at break (wasn't overly concerned tbh as wasnt expecting to win anything anyway). Came back b4 the guy and the other guys at the table said they couldn't believe the other guy. Sean (the weatherman) comes back just b4 the other guy and the consensus was I took it quite well(not my consensus the tables).

I say nothing just smile and depart on the next hand when I am all in for 400 on the bb. The sb bet the turn and the other 2 players folded. The Sb then tries to muck his cards and take the pot. I stop him and my 6 high is no good for the side pot. Some people are just honest at heart eh!

Later on the TLC (he was Turkish) says he lives in Switzerland...... Jesus Christ even fucking Hitler couldn't fall out with the Swiss - although to be fair I don't think he was a massive fan of the Turkish!

Played a little MTT evening today to practice for this weeks festivities in the emerald Isle.

Nice results and could have been a whole lot better - really feel in the mood to play well in Ireland.

I will be selling my usual % again for this tourney to balance the variance. I don't have a shortage of buyers but would prefer to spread the lot out as I reckon I will cash abut 1 in 7 times in this kind of event so 6/7 times people walk away with nothing but theres always that jackpot win.

Damn, that's the very definition of marginal!

You have to think you're behind but it's a question of how far. The first thing I'd do is work out what my chances of getting a ticket are if I fold. Leaving 17.8K behind gives you about a 36-37% chance of a ticket, so it's a question of assessing whether you've a better chance than that if you call. If you call and win, you're 90% or better for a ticket, so I'd call if I thought on average I'm about 40% (6/4 dog).

Hands he might have:
(1)Pocket pair 8's or lower, it's about 45/55
(2) 9's to jacks, about 30/70
(3) Queens through aces, about 15/85
(4) Dominated or two overs, average it at 30/70
(5) Hands like AJ, KJ etc. 40/60
(6) Rag aces or kings where rag is lower than 9, 43/57
(7) A bluff or something like J10, 60/40

Then it depends on what probability you ascribe to each of the 7 hand types, based on your image of him, and your perception of his image of you. If I were you, I'd think he had looser than normal allin requirements here, so against a typical opponent my probabilities would probably go15,10,10,25,15,15,10 and when you do the math that works out at 37% I think. Which is marginal, but probably not quite enough to call, since I'd rate your chances of a ticket if you fold more or less the same, and even if you call and do win, you're not totally guaranteed a ticket.So I'd fold.

i wuld love to think that all of that went through my head while the little clock was spinning and to some degree it must have.

However the real crux of the matter was the stack sizes.
If I fold here with the stack sizes and positions I am going to have to win at least 1 all in and perhaps 2 if things don't go well.
I have played 8 rounds of the table as the short stack (16k to 24k) and although holding my own I have had to reraise people all in 3 or 4 times as well as steal quite allot. There is no way I can see of bullying my way in due to pushing.
I may get all in with a 70/30 in my favour later on but if I do fold and start pushing i am most likely to get called by a dominating 60/40, 70/30, even 80/20 hand!
Its the right opponent - I do not call the CL with my hand as if I win I am still only 75% to get a seat.

Anyway I am finding this hard to explain - maybe I am just a fishy donk (most decent players I asked on msn said fold) but I called. He had the kind of hand I expected and hoped for A -rag (5 in this case)
We(myself and my Girlfriend who was watching me over the shoulder)took a lovely flop of K 10 9
However we soon found the Ace lying in wait on the turn.

But a beautiful Q sealed the deal and made the stack sizes - Me 48k Other dude 50k CL 90k and UL A5 man 17k or so. He pushed a few times and made it up to 20k when the CL limp called an all in with 33. Short stack had Kd9d Flop 7d 4h Ad, Turn (2 2 2 2 2 2) 6h, River (holllllllldddd) 2s. Lovely

I still have loads to post about and I have made a real hash of explaining my reasoning behind the call (I still feel its very marginal - however its all about stack sizes and the way the table is going). However I am delighted to be off to san remo in 3 weeks time. I have now played 11 sattelites this year and qualified for $10,000, $9,000, $10,000, 1500 euro, 2000 euro and $3000! Sattelites are good!! I have paid out about $800 euro + $2400 in entry fees!

Anyway this is quite a boring post but hey so be it. I cant tip you 7/1 shots that are 2/1 6 days later every day!

Very very busy schedule but as I am away I should have time to post more.

Weds - Dublin for a week, then fly to manchester for stanley thing, then fly to San Remo for EPT then perhaps monte carlo. Not forgetting a month in vegas in June!!

Off to Cheltenham in 5 hours time. Hopefully I will get some sleep on the way down in the train. Having hospitality courtesy of Betfair should be nice too. Very much looking forward to it!

As many of you know I have a nice antepost bet on bibs to come 3rd at 7 and 8/1 pre season. Hibs are playing the best football in the league at present with our new manager and I am happy with my bet. However while checking the numbers I came across bet 365 offering 7/1 NOW in a 3 horse race.
I am very good at odds on things I know. I make it evs Motherwell, 4/1 Dundee Utd and 11/4 Hibs and 20/1 the rest put together.
Getting 7/1 just now is just wrong and indeed u can lay 5/1 on betdaq just now if u have funds there for a free bet.

Been quite a busy and good weekend. I will try and get the whole lot down here.

Friday
Won £2500 on the horses on betfair being pretty sensible, (for a change) good time of year for my horse strategy. Had some dinner with the girlfriend and then headed out to play Rory and Scott at tennis. I destroyed rory 6-0 then beat Scott 6-4. Went off to the pool while they played and managed to get £100 nicked from my locker while trying to send a text (no reception in the changing room so had to step out for a sec - cunts). Scott kept going on about how good a bet Scotland were at 9/2 for the Calcutta cup. I agreed but as it was Scott giving the advice I didn't read too much into it.

Played a little online in my bed when the girlfriend was asleep and was playing well until this hand upset me more than it should of. I logged off shortly after it with a small loss. I think it upset me because I played it so well and so trickily it induced his call and then I got UL. Anyway not a problem in the grand scheme of things.

Was speaking to Rory on msn and he was saying that the only game on ipoker that was going was 25/50 and he didn't want to play that big. I suggested we play the heads up Omaha match that we talked about on stars. We did and I won 3 buy ins from him in a 90 minute game at micro stakes. TBH I won with aaxx v aaxx but i did just get the better of him overall it was a good game. I probably only won as I have been watching him and now his style. He will beat me next time.

Saturday
Scott is meant to be coming round with his friend martin to watch the rugby (got offered tics but just too much hassle and I hate rugby live as u cant make out whats happening) and has been calling all morning. I of course am asleep after my Titanic struggle heads up v Rory until 4am. Eventually I wake up and Scott mumbles something about betting Portsmouth. I tell him to beat it as I am half asleep and it sounds like a mugs bet anyway! Doh.

Break even on a few horse races before Scott arrives. Scott has £100 on Martin £300 and I have about £300 on and some extras on HT/FT on Scotland to beat england. The weather looks fowl outside so conditions are good for the underdog. 1 hour later and all bets are squared off for a very nice profit with scotland leading by 12 points. We hold on for an easy victory and my betfair account is £2400 richer and I just pay the boys in cash.

Before they head Scott talks martin into having a bet on Barnsley because he fancies them! seriously! They have £70 on at 15/1 and I have £30 just for fun (i didn't fancy them but the price was OK). Well you all know the result! Scott has predicted a 10/1, 9/2 and a 15/1 winner in the same day but with his trip to the casino is equally skint as he was when he was eating his ready brek! Madness!

I headed to the cinema to watch vantage point despite its shitty reveiws. The reviews were correct, despite it being on a cool subject (A terrorist attack on the president), having a fortune spent on it (really cool action and scenery), decent actors (Forest Whitteker) and actually a decent plot, it was just a bit shit. Oh well it wasnt if I was doing anything btween 11pm and 1am anyway. Got back and teh girlfriend fell asleep and I played a little shorthanded omaha, I noticed I was playing alot better after the heads up game with rory and was thankful that a guy who has won so much cash still enjoys teh game to take t seriously for such low stakes.

Sunday Poker
Played the 150k on ongame and lost QQ to AA reasonable deep. -$300
Played the 100k on betfair and lost JJ to AA after an hour. - $550
Played 3 satts, 2 for the irish open on betfair and ipoker. and 1 for GUPT on ipoker. - $550+$320+$250

The betfair one started 2 hours earlier and I was riding 4/30 with 3 seats when the other 2 started so ony really concentrated on the betfair one.

4/30 was on about 11k starting stack 5k. No real lead when I got a beautiful gift of just about a double up against teh table donk when my QQ was way to good on a J78 board against 99.

Plodded along playing v aggressively and knocked out a few guys.

Then a guy who pushed 16 bb from the cut off i call it on the button with AQ for 1/3 of my stack. (he had A9). The reason that I mention this hand as its a good read and u always hear people talking about big lay down s and don't get involved if you don't have too. BS - these people are usually shit and have to luck their way into seats with getting big hands. You need to push the edges and one of those is knowing what kind of hand people open push 16 BB with. (its not AK AA KK QQ ) its Aq- Ax Kq KJ and 22 -66.

Anyway lesson over - you can read some real great advice on satts from my good pal ariston on the betfair poker page - please do if u are going to play against me as it makes it much easier if you all play teh same obvious way.

1 guy got a bit upset when I (1st with 48k - 1/5 - 2nd had 20k) reraised his button raise. Button playing 17k raises to 3200 bb 800 - I repop to 10k and he tanks and goes all in. I obv call and win when my 58s is too good for his A10off. I get lucky but i reckon its him who plays the hand bad. He isn't beating much. Hes 60/40 re most of my bad hands (IE bluffs). Hes 50/50 re some of my average hands and hes crushed re nearly all of my legit re raising hands. GL to him in future.

Anyway i was on 65k when the nearest was on 25k but I couldn't rest as there were 11 players and 210k chips in play. I needed to stay up between 60k and 90k (just for safety). This all went wrong when I got draw to the right of 2nd in chips and he repoped me the 1st 3 times I raised! FFS. It all looked a bit crap then, but it turns out that was just cards and not him messing with me as he never did it again.

My SB I fold to a raise of 5k bb 1.5k calls. They see a flop of 33Q. BB bets 7k and raiser (has 6k more calls). Turn 7 and the BB goes all in for 30k. raiser insta calls.

Not Playing Much

Not playing much - hence the lack of updates.

Played 2 hours online in the last week. I just have not been in the mood. Funnily enough I lost a couple of grand at omaha cash in those 2 hours - my worst performance at cash this year.

However I have mainly been playing live over the last week. 6 Card omaha cash games at the maybury. The game is a strange one. Everyone usually starts with £200 on the table and after 1 hour there willbe about £4000 between the 7 players and by the end of the night about £8000! Its 1/2/4 sometimes 8 and 16 straddles too. so its lively. I will try and do a post on the game at some point soon.

While waiting for the game to start on Sunday when watching Rory take down the maybury main event for £20k I sat in a hold em cash game. I am not good at hoold em cash but this table was crazy bad. People were playing every pot and the pot would be 60 pre flop pretty much most hands at blinds 1/2 . Anyway the upshot is that I got lucky and won this big hand.
UTG raises to £25, call, I call with QQ, 2 more calls and the BB goes all in fior £215. UTG (playing £530) calls and I then push all in for £550 total. While we are trying to match up our stacks to sort of the side pot the guy to my left calls £550 (hes the only one who had me covered) after only having put £25 in. We see a beautiful A9Q flop and 2 bricks let me win. I was up against A9 bb - JJ UTG and amazingly 77! Sweet £2000 pot at 1/2!

anyway I am just off out to play some tennis with Scot and rory so Iw ill leave you with these two links.

As I last posted on WEDNESDAY I was going to play all three events at the maybury this week. I did and none of it went very well.

Weds -
I was playing Rory at tennis at 8.30pm - thats how good my day went. I didnt treat this seriously and called Graeme Harrison down for the whole stack on a 346 board with 68!! in level 1!

Thursday -
Played OK but got stuck in the middle when I reraised someone all in with JJ to his 1010 but the sb woke up with AA, oops. Also played a crazy 6 Omaha cash game where 7 people initially bought in for between £200 an £300 each and 2 hours later there was £10,000 on the table. I actually bought in for £200 then after 2 orbits topped upto £1000 to have the table covered, lost that £1000 and rebought for £1000 and had my £2k back when the table broke and then won £700 on the other 6 omaha table by hitting almost every flop in the last hour..... v nice and lucky and pays for the week almost.

Friday -
Again no good. I woke up at 2.40 and tried to call a cab but as a storm had just started I had real trouble getting one. It came at 3.40 (3pm start at poker) and I evetually got there at 4.20. hmmmm I had only lost 300 of my 10,000 chips but it was all a bit rushed and I never really got going at what was a hard 1st table. The 2nd table had Ror on it but apart from that was v v easy. Unfortunately I never had enough chips to really get going and went out with 88 v AJ to get me back to average if I had won. Rory is still in so good luck to him.

Oh and a big suprise - I really enoyed myself over the week. I would give it a 8/10 for enjoymen. shame my poker skills were about 3/10.

Although the past few days online onsense has been amusing its ultimately a waste of time.

Back to the real subject matter - poker - well its off to the maybury edinburgh for some sort of uk poker tour which comprises of a £100, £200 and £500 events. Hopefully will be profitable.
Also will be interesting to note the enjoyment factor as well. Ireland was 8.5/10, england (walsall)was 4/10, I reckon a 6 or 7 for edinburgh.

Been playing some MTT's recently with no real sucess. I was playing really well at the tail end of last week and went deep in a few but only decent cash was 5th for $1100 which was annoying. This week I have played pretty crappily and broke even due to some decent omaha play.

My omaha will be down for the month as I dropped about $3k when trying to incorporate some of Rorys play into my game at the start of the month. He really is a shorthanded omaha machine and hopefully I will learn from him and manage to sucessfully incorporate it into my game. I liken it to Tiger woods having a swing change. Short term pain for some long term gain!. :-) lol

Ariston is a greedy man, and you can watch, from safety, as the ignoramous greedily sweeps up everything sugary in sight returning with a dirty look of satisfaction on his face and forgetting the whole thing because of his severe feeblemindedness....

Next stop edinburgh (which is handy as I am ill and knackered) £100, £200 and £500 games this week. I have only played once in the last 6 months in Edinburgh and I won! I would say its 50,000/1 on keeping this record this week!

The hand I mentioned in my last post. My obvious mistake that I was talking about is trying to get a guy off AA when its so obvious he has AA. If a guy is going to play AA so obviouly he aint laying it down post flop so why try to bluf him! I will emember this for the next time I catch 2 pair when I "know" he has AA and we are mega deepstacked.

Also all our comments such as did u ever think u were ahead and why did u min raise are valid. BTW I never though I was ahead (but I still had the implied odds to call the flop bet) and I min raised as the guy before me was playing every hand and wouldnt fold to a raise so a min raise gives me control of the hand (not saying its right - just giving u my theory behind it!)

LOL - The only video from walsall with me in it is below - this was the hand I eluded o yesterday. It shows me in a whole world of pain. I think i was thinking about whether to call for about a minute before they started filming.
The reason I react so pained is the history with this player. He was friggin awful. Let me clarify - he seemed like a nice enough guy but he was so fishy at poker!

I had been sitting at his table for about 3 hours. He had been playing that classic brand of mildly scared/reckless poker. (dont get me wrong I am not saying he was scared as the cash was important to him - he probably has like 10x my roll in his business or his house) What I mean is he would play too few pts and the ones he did play he would do odd things in them.

exhibit a - bad play - blinds 2k/4k playing a 70k stack he pushes all his chips in from 1st position. 17x BB and when his bet gets though he proudly shows AQ to show he aint bluffing!

exhibit b - luckyness - Neil Channing opens from UTG to 15k for the 3rd time and I reraise him from mid position to 36k with 99. Folds all round to Mr Denton in the small blind who wakes up with KK and goes all in for 40k more. I make a crying call getting 7/2 but knowing I need 4/1 i was the chip leader though so the hit didnt hurt me too much.

I raise from cut off 7 handed to 23k (bb 8k) - I am playing 210k.

Flop Qs 5h 4c - check check - I have 9 9 but want to keep the pot small and see what he does on a blank turn.

Turn 5s - he checks I bet 26k - he calls very quickly - hmmmmmm

River Jh - He moves all in for 46k - hmmmmmm - I eventually call after trying to work out what he had and deciding it must be abusted flush draw or a trickly played 5. When I call (and this is what really got to me) he says "just a jack" as if he is bluffing ad hes out of the tourney. His eyes light up when I shake my head!

PS - I dont normally look as crushed when I lose hands - in fact I take them quite well, but this one just reallygot to me due to his weird play and his bluff/value bet at the end!! - U can tell I am upset as my voice goes high for a second!!

As much as you all may think the weird beat below isnt weighing on my mind at all. I am more annoyed at 1 particular hand from earlier that hour where I lost 100k chips..... I will do a proper walsall update later on in the week.
I still plan to do an update from Drogheda main event and also one from before I went to the EPT titled the JOker. We will see if I ever get round to them.

The last few weeks I have mainly been hanging out with Rory and Scott. I have learned a fair bit from both of them regarding certain mindsets useful to the game and also some basic Omaha strategy from Rory whch should help my win rate (which is ridic high due to running redhot). My Mtt game is very strong just now and if I wasnt so knackered I would be hitting the medium sized live tourney trail.

A few people ask me what constitutes a normal day for me now that i dont have a real job. Yesterday was a good day and one which I hope to emulate routine wise. It went a little like this.

8am GF gets up and goes to work I take a break and read the papers and have a bath.

10am - 11am Another session at omaha .

Noon - Meet scott at a sandwich bar and have some lunch

1.30pm -3.30 Catch up with Rory and the 3 of us head back to mine and play some poker while the other watches (I won $1k on rorys account :-) )

4 -6.30 play tennis at my local gym (i beat scott and he took the huff!)

7pm + Put +ev bets on football and golf and watch said events - Fucking Tiger woods cost me a grand on my outright book by coming back from 3 down with 5 to play to win... I should have backed him at 10/1 for the match (i had layed at 3/1 for the whole tourney!).

7pm + can be interchangeable for going out or playing MTT's, just not cash games as I am crap at them when i have been up for 10 hours +

Some of you may have read the comments page below and are wondering what everyone is eluding to with their UL comments. Well here is the post from blonde poker (with a couple of minor corrections) of how I went out of the walsall event in 14th position.

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, here's one to get your heads around.

Dharminder Buttar button raises and Graham Clarkson says, "Call."

But Buttar thinks he's said fold and turns over pocket Eights.

A ruling is called for, and it's decided the hand can continue but, Buttar can only call from now on.

FLOP - Qh 7S 5D

Graham bets 19k and Dharminder calls.

TURN - 9D

Graham now moves all-in and Dharminder quickly calls with the Eights. He actually took about 2 mins to call after I told him I would show him!>

Graham flips over KQ but the river is the 6D.

Graham sees it first and shouts, "Straight!" in pure disbelief, then shoves all his chips towards Buttar before leaving the table.

Actually he saw the straight immediataly, I just stood up in disbelief walked 20 yards to another table and banged my head on it 4 times (it was quite sore)before collecting my cash!

Been on stupid sleeping times since Ireland. Again I am up at 5am but today I really need to be asleep as heading to walsall in a few hours to play day1b of the gupt. Going down with Rory and Scott again. Lets hope 1 of us is sucessfull.

Other than that nothing to report. Won a few grand at the start of the week at cash omaha and then dribbled it away during the week.

Went to the races on Tuesday and lost a grand in cash and broke even on betfair but then won a grand back yesterday on Kelso.

So I am just waiting on paying my Grand entry fee and then getting it back somehow for the GUPT with no profit.

Well I would love to tell you I thought it all through and decided to call but to me this is an insta call. I put him on a small pair 55-99 and called instantly.
I was sort of correct.
He didnt havev a category A hand AA, KK, QQ, AK,.
Nor a catt B hand JJ,1010, AQ, AJ,.
He had a catt C hand 44-10 or KQ, A10 etc.

Unfortunately he had the killer KQ (a hand so bad I could not put him on it even if i tried) Such a weird hand for him to do that with as I could easily have AK -in fact its the most ikely holding of mine after my strange play.

So the flop brings a Q and my 20,000 euro hand goes into my history as failure. The guys name was Bos sjord or something and needless to say he fucked his chips soon on day 2. Clown!

I have been going round in circles trying to get some simple info from these clowns.

a, they snidely tell me that i shouldnt need my rake info as they dont do rakeback - they used to though and i am still set up through a rakebak provider u snivelling little prick.

b, they make it very hard for you to send them the deails they need. At present after lots of faxes that dont work and recred deliverly I managed to get them my passport details and a copy of my card. not enough they need all cards before they can send me my cash...... arrrrgghhhh - I have just spent the last hour arguing with them on livechat - the transcript shold be funny as I am litterally boiling here. I will post it later...... safe to say dont use these unhelpful clowns when there are loads of other options that offer great deals on that network such as tower gaming above. Their deposit deal works out at 75% rakeback for the fisrt grand raked anyway!

Had a good time over the last 2 weeks travelling around pokering around. Came back with slightly more cash than I left with after paying expenses in cash, however would have been more profitable staying in and playing $10 sng's!

Hey from rainy Drogheda.

Been playing the festival since Saturday, really enjoying the place as all the guys are friendly and the place is really well run by Mike and the guys. Made day 2 of the shorthanded 500 event but finished 20/100 for no cash. Played cash games afterwards and won back my entries for most the week!

So it was on to the omaha 500 game last night which I never got going in and 5 levels later was out! Didnt play cash games last night as wasnt in the mood. Mafews did for 1 or 2 rounds and just as our taxi arrived he called the reraise all in with a flush draw and ovbviously because he is golden he hit and we packed up his 4k chips as we walked to the taxi!

So its now Tuesday and I am sitting on the computers in the cracking wee green joker poker club writing my blog while railing Scott upstairs and rory online on the green joker website. Really enjoying my time here.

Anyway back to the title of the post. Thew badger v the frog.

Setting the scene
I am playing a 500 6 handed event with a 20k starting stack with all the levels thrown in. I am playing fine and just win a pot as my table breaks to take my stack to 31k with a 23k ave bb is only 100!!
I sit down at the 6 handed table in seat 5. Seat 6 is ery active and after chatting to him for 5 mins find taht he is french and fancies himself as a player. I can see he is a tricky player and know that I will play a few pots ith him over the day as our table isnt scheduled to close all day. We played 5 pots over 8k in the 1st 25 mins i was at the table!! Crazy - bb was still 100 (we have 300 bb's).

Anyway things calmed down a bit and we both made our way up to 60k (ave 30k) over the next 2 hours (levels). Things were going well and the banter was good bewteen us and the table..... he was a cocky french guy and I was a cheeky scottish guy. I particularly liked asking him (old joke) what the french for deja vu was - he didnt really get it v quickly. I found out his name was Ludovik Lacay and that he had a couple of solid results. He also like to boast of his sponsorship and how he can play any events. I just smiled and said its nice to be paid in! I just spunked away 18k chips on a bad move so was a bit pissed off and then this hand occurs.

Anyway - The hand
(taken from greenjokerpokerblog) with 1 small correction (only 2 hearts on the turn not 3).

So here's how it went . . . these 2 chaps are sitting side by side, just as the photos show.

Preflop play is unknown at this stage (think i limped on the cuttoff and him on the butt),
but flop is AT7, Ludovic bets 1200, Graham check raises to 3200, Ludovic calls.

Turn comes - Queen of Hearts - this is the 2nd heart to hit the board. Graham checks, Ludovic bets 3000, Graham then raises to 11k, Ludovic calls.

Blank on the river and Graham leads with 15k, Ludovic then goes all in, which would be approx 57k.
Graham calls for his last 22k and turns over K7 off suit - yes that's right, 4th pair! BUT!!!! It was enough to win the pot and Graham's smile just gets bigger and bigger!

The aftermath
boom - I am delighted, he is moaning after I show my hand (he mucked quickly). I rake in my 90k + chips as he chats to his french chums behind me barating my call. I turn to him and say - "sacre blu - wot a coll" come on admit it - it was a great call... sacre blu - etc etc as he just moans and moans for the next 45 mins.. including retelling it at the break to his other french chums again berating my play.. Gotta love those crazy frogs!!

PS the logic behind the call is that I have been representing trips or top 2 all the way. He calls my massive check raise on the turn (with 2 hearts on board) and therefore can only have AA or KhJh or a draw. If he has KJ non hearts he must push on the turn. He then reraises me all in on my 15k bet??? OK lets think it through. He is aggressve and he is tricky. He cant reraise with 2 pair, he can with AA or 1010 maybe but they are being very stranhgly played. KJ is a possibility as its teh nutz but unless it is specifically KJh then its unlikely. Leading me to conclude that he was probably bluffing or had KhJh or maybe 1010? The AA would raise preflop so thats out.

I call, I win, he mumbles about dubul beleee boosta's and how lucky I am! Auvoir Ludo.

Without knowing their table images and assuming you have more chips than the sb I would guess that your range is A5 and above, K9 and above, 55 and above?Depending on what type of player the sb is, at a guess I would have thought he might do that with a pocket pair of 7s through to 10s or AK?

No idea. Why would you raise 5x the pot in this spot? - LOL i ask myself that exact question.

Surely this had to be a joke? I cant see why someone would raise to 5K here in this spot. If you did raise this much im assuming you are a donkey so your range is 23off suit and better. His range would be something along the lines of 99, 1010, AQ and better type hands...

I'm hoping Graham is the SB and he's shipped it with any 2... - Unfortunately not this time.

The BB's raising range would be pretty wide, any pair, A5+, any 2 broadways. Like top 20% of hands. His oversized raise feels like he doesn't want a call either, making AA/KK more unlikely. Pushing any 2 from the SB in this spot would be really profitable as the BB is going to have a tough time calling with anything less than JJ+/AK.

EPT Dortmund Part 2

OK lets do it this way. I will post my most important hands from the EPT. They were all at level 5-6 bb300 (lev6 had an ante of 25). Might as well spread it out a bit.

I will then add comments on the hands in question in a few days time.

Setting the scene

I had been moved to table 4 in the last 10 mins of level 4 (100/200), I had witnessed about 5 hands in which it was easy to see that seat 7 was a clown. This was proven in level5 when he limped 40%+ pots! I was in seat 1. Seat 2 looked too loose and novicey, seats 3-6 were all solid (5 looked scared though) 8 was a good aggressive swedish guy and 9 was not quiet.

I came back from the break with 12.5k ish. I soon ran this up to 17k with no resistence by a few raises and i also established that mr limper and the solid guys (3-6) would not call to float when I bet a paultry 400 into a 5 way pot and they all folded! :-) So I am in control of the table (I think) i have above average and only seat 8 to worry about.

Fucking Pokerplayers

No not some bad beat thread or the likes.

I have been happilly living in my hotel room for the last 48 hours - totally not like me, i love cities and finding things to do, but this place is shite. Also cant seem to find an old town and dont like to ask as it was probably bombed to fuck 60 years ago.

Anyway been happily playing omaha online and taking my winnings to a record month for me. Played a few MTT's too on mansion but no sucess (probably about $700 down) but I came 2nd in the $55 midnight tourney on betfair the night before my day1 on the EPT for $1400, so MTT's going OK too.

But, and heres where the title comes from, after making a foray into town at 3pm to grab some pasta for lunch i wasnt hungry all evening. I spent the evening looking at EPT updates on blondepoker.com an the excellently funny http://www.siktilt.com/ but at 1am I got the munchies.

The turn is a ...Queen [oh my god!] and the river is an Ace, meaning Wrenger is our unlucky bubbler..."
Poor Wrenger, especially when it was revealed by one of the players (after the hand) that they had folded a queen, effectively meaning he got a one out, slap in the face, bad beat on the bubble of one of the biggest tournaments in europe.
Poker can be so harsh...Wrenger grabbed his coat angrily and stormed out of the poker arena looking sick as a dog who has come home hungry from a hard day's work, only to be told the following by his housemate...

There were only peanuts in the mini bar so it was a call to room service. Firstly i get a german dude who bumped me on to some german chick as he was obviously not comfortable telling me the bad news. The bad news being that there was no food, when I say no food they did have one thing - probably the only thing i couldnt stomach on the whole menu a fucking tuna pizza.

I try a 2nd call to reception - they are usually v helpful here. They inform me that the only place taht is open is a Mcdonalds - I perk up - but my perkiness is short lived as it seems they are only teasing me as it is a 20 minute drive away and they wont go and I am lying naked in bed.

So as i eat 3 different types of nuts i think to myself - FUCKING POKERPLAYERS!

Bollox!

So another EPT goes by, this time I am one of the demoalised 90% who don't cash. Feeling a bit depressed just now but thats what comes of playing well and only making it half way through day 1. I will run through a few key hands of the day here.

Table 1
I was drawn at table 20 along with one other sunpoker guy (he was v standard player) and 4 guys who were sponsored by hotels.nl (it appears everyone is in on this sponsorship lark!) led by a good player dan ruiter. It wuld appear people were seated according to when they bought in. sensibly they moved a few of the hotels guys (thank god as they were decent dutch players) and brought in a few others inc a really bad guy in a porshe t shirt -he looked like a rich businesman.

Anyway after winning a few wee pots I bobbled between 11k and 9.5k when this big hand occurred.

I raise in mid position 4x bb50 with 99.
fold call fold sb fld and BB (Mr Porshe - hes a baaaad player) raise to 650 urrrgh. I call and the other guy folds.
Flop Jh - 9d - 4d - he checks?? weird one - but I want to build the pot up so go for what looks like an auto opporunist bet when checked to me. bet 700 - he raises me to 2600 - wow. I take my time over an agonising call (in reailty I was easily callingin position to what I thought was his overpair)
Turn (be a black2!) 8d - doh he checks - i check behind (in hindsight a bad play but i didnt want to go bust to a clown and would get a bluff bet off him at teh end or would be able to value bet a non d river)
River 7s.... urrrgh anyway he checks so I know I am good and bet a 1600 bet (pretty pathetic but this is all that the situ warranted) he called and I expect he has KK qq? He had A8 - clown.

me with 15k! the dealer looks a bit like a monkey - a sexy monkey!

I am up to 15k - i probably shoudl have consolodated but I like to kick on to build a big stack so that I can play my LAAAG game.

However I was soon back at 10k when i raised from mid position with 8s5s. Two of the 3 good players at my table called with me playing mid position post flop.
Flop 4h-7h-2s - hmmmm not great but probably not great for these guys either. ruiter leads out at the pot 225 into 700 (he claims he tried to bet 625 but put in the wrong chip) I call. other guy folds.
Turn Qh - he bets 700 I reraise to 2300. He takes a while then calls. oops so i am looking for a non 6 heart after my bluff went awry! turn was a bland and he checked and I bet 1/4 pot to look like I wanted a call...... (I can get him to fold Ah hands here or even Ah 2s or such like. anyway I am glad a took a small shot at the river as he had 10h8h.

Porshey had managed to get his chips back after being down to 2k and flipping on level 2 with JJ v AK then winning 3 hands on the bounce when -

I raised his early limp with Q10. he called oop and we saw a 3 way flop of 89J rainbow. bingo! he checks I bet 600 he reraises me to 1800. I call. Turn blank he checks?? I bet 1700 he calls and then a blank river he checks and wont call my 3000 (1/2 pot) river bet, h thought about it for ages as well!

Anyway shortly after that I got moved to another table. 3 (80 hands?)in and I have had 4 pairs 99, 1010, 33 and 66 and AK once and AQ twice. Once I limp reraised it from 1st position turning it into a nice 1500 pot without seeing a flop! So not card dead but not great. however at 13k I amjust above average and looking forwrad to a good run!

Anyway guys got to head out to casino as I have only made it to the door to collect food in teh last 16 hours so need to get some air! will continue update this am.

Played really well all day.... without the best of cards but with some nice play and reads..... will update properly. some key hands on www.blondepoker.com as a few of u guys were asking for me.

I am really pissed off though and its not like me.... I had a steam choice between 1000E Sng's or roulette as soon as I got knocked out. I chose roulette and despite playing between 400 and 800 a spin i only lost a few hundred (with 5000 euros on me it all could have gone).

The price of poker is going up!

"Package fee includes casino entry, buffet, soft drinks, beer, tea and coffee - either €70/day or €315 for the duration of the EPT."

This isnt an entry fee this is a 70E fee to enter the poker room! lol - Should keep out the riff raff (like me when I am not playing!).

Anyway I start today and due to an iphone malfuction - I only have madonna, damien rice, killers & proclaimers on my iphone! which one will be lucky? Updates should be on blondepoker or somewhere.

EPT 8000 euro buy in %'s for sale
I mentioned in an earlier post that I was going to sell a % of myself in the EPT Dortmund that I qualified for. With the form I am in I reckon even this will be a nice +ev event. However I will use the cash to play the side events in which I am also + ev! I usually sell bits to my mates and family but this event is too pricey to sell the usual 40% to them.
My dad is over £10k up from his %'s!!

Nice and simple 1% blocks for sale (if you want feel free to go for 0.5%).

The 1st prize will be about 1 million euro so there is some serious money to be made. The whole final table will win 100k + if Barcelona is anything to go by. I know it looks strange to people that I want to sell % of myself but I have strong feelings on Bankroll management and I would never pay this kind of cash for a 500 man tourney or a wsop event as the variance s far to high to justify it on any less than a million £ bankroll.
I aint going to produce a CV. But I have played five 3k + buy in events in the last few years.

All my poker results

London EPT 2005 season 2 - Well as most of you know I FT but finshed 8th.

Irish Open 2006 - From cruising on day 1 and being CL with an hour to play I lost 2 flips and finshed day 1 10th/60 or so. I ended up just making the money in 31st - but what could have been!

EPT Dublin 2006 - Had chopped the final table of a side event the night before for $5000 but this event didnt really get going and I finished about half way down the field just b4 day 1 end.
Made for TV event £3000 buy in. Won my v hard heat and then got heads up with Paul Jackson in the final. Had him all in with K5 v my 1010 for 90% of the chips in play only to lose -battled back to all square again but lost in the end for a £28000 profit.

Irish Open 2007 - Nothing much to report played OK didn't run great or get too good cards and finished on day 1in the bottom third.

LOL - Just added this as I had totally forgotton about this tourney - its amazing how you can just blank out the bad things!! WSOP main event 2006 - played bad and loose as over relaxed and went out v early

Its 5am and I have managed to sleep from midnight until 3am today. My friend is picking me up to go to the airport at 6.30 as I am off to the algarve for a few days of golf. So basically my sleeping is screwed. I have however had a good last couple of days on the non online front, including a trip to the races and a trip to the Maybury casino for a £100 game. I am in the middle of a post about those and will try to post when I am away - we are staying in some nice resort so should have some wifi.

Nice!! I just checked the hotel (for the 1st time) it looks nice, its the penina resort and is a Le Meridien. Now problem is how myself, Dad, My mate Andy (who is the director of his own building company) + 13 random assorted building people behave here for the weekend!

Dortmund EPT
Playing well and hopefully will be relaxed from the golf holiday I hope to put a nice run together here. Lets hope I have to miss my flight due to a final table.

Irish Deepstack Champs
A 1400 euro (I need a euro button on my laptop) main event with a 50k starting stack - in Ireland - all factors lead to fun.

Feb 10th onwards
Ouch - there are so many tourneys this month I fancy in some cracking cities. The POP festival in the aviation club is on from the 8th to the 17th. Paris is my Favourite city so we will see.

Also the Olympic casino tour is on this month in the Baltics and Poland. They always treat their customers well so I fancy it too. Schedule below buy ins are just right as far as I am concerned.

If anyone fancies meeting up or heading to any of the tournaments on this page give me a shout. If you turn up tomorrow at my hotel in Portugal that will be a bit weird - but OK as long as you will play poker and golf :-).

Sorry for not updating since thursday but I am the worlds shittest hangover man and I was out on Saturday night!

Home Game

As I mentioned in the last post I was off to Rory's (mafews) house to play a friendly home game. The line up was not easy

Me - Well u all know me.
Rory - Look up mafews online if you don't know who he is. I have known him for a few years now and he is a really nice guy despite his success. But more importantly he is pretty good at poker too :-).
Ben - In the same mould as Rory, they have both won allot of cash online and play a superb game.
Scott - Scott's a great guy but my god he is hapless. This guy must have the worst discipline of anyone I know and although he has poker talent he is often broke, but he always rebounds.
Phil - The kind of typical intimidating guy you would see in your local casino. Phil is a character and is loud. However the more you get to know him the more you like. I travelled down to Brum with him for a poker thing and it was a great journey as his stories are fantastic. Unlike allot of the guys in casinos he is actually a nice guy.
Chris - Well if you don't know Chris and are in Edinburgh just look in the maybury card room and he will be the guy sitting with the massive pile of cash in the cash game. Good fearless tourney player too and certainly doesn't deserve his lucky tab that he is known for!

Well I didn't know what to expect from the game, were people going to take it seriously? I was looking forward to it but was planning on relaxing rather than playing a serious game. Everyone (bar Chris who was watching Vera die in Coronation Street) arrived and we were straight down to business. No pool in Rory's living room meant that this was a real poker night not just a get together. We decided that we were going to play dealers choice £1/£2 and everyone bought in for £200-£400. I just bought in for 2 as was expecting it to be mad with straddles and rebuys etc.

But it wasn't like that. Ben and Rory were playing properly, (the rest of us always were going to) and there were no straddles on the table and just a proper game. I was a complete card rack for the 1st hour and was sitting around £300 up - I was also playing every hand unlike everyone else! The games we played over the night were as follows, my skill proficiency in (brackets).

I was calling 7stud hilo as I like it and its a really good pot limit game involving action and knowing when to bale out. Basically I like any weird game that no one plays as I pick things up quickly ad don't have to work at it to keep up with others levels. 1 big hand occurred just before Chris arrived.
I call the bring in for £1 with an 8 showing (I have a 2 and an 8 hidden).
3 other callers to Ben (K showing) who raises £5 we all call the £5.
The next card brings me another 8 and I check to Ben who bets £10, Scott raises with 3 lo cards showing, Phil with A23 showing calls. But then I rearaise 1/2 pot. Ben gets out the way. But (and here's the rookie mistakes) Scott calls the bet as he is all in.(not too bad as he is short stacked. But Phil calls the £80 with £150 behind.
The ext card brings me a 9 and the boys high cards. I obv bet Phil all in and he calls.
I deal the down card and wait to see what the guys declare (I know I have trips but am hoping to secure the high hand with a FH).
Both Phil and Scott managed to miss their lows and i actually hit the FH to rub salt in the wounds and take down the £550 ish pot. I also cemented my reputation as the luckiest player there! I also got lucky as I hit my hand in a game that no one else plays and they made significant mistakes in chasing the low hand.

Anyway Chris then arrived sat behind me and relieved me of most of my profits. Chris is an expert at 6 Omaha and plays it most nights in the cash game. However I still think that his mistake made him £350 here. Why does he bet? I hold A,A,A,10,10,4 double suited. There was some raising pre flop but the flop of 7,9,10 (2 spades) was checked all the way round. The turn brought a 4 of diamonds bring 2 diamonds on the board. I bet the pot of £100 holding trip 10's and the diamond nuts flush draw. Chris called (as usual) and everyone else folded. The river brought a J spades. I just give up and check. However Chris then bets £100 into the £300 pot. I look at my cards again and notice I have the bare ace and reraise £250. Chris thinks for an age and eventually calls with 7,5 spades. WTF? why did he not just check the river? hmmmm oh well.

Rory took £1000 of me in Dortmund so I went home with more money that I came with! That reminds me anyone else interested in a % contact me by email. flashbadger@googlemail.com

Omaha
I have mainly been playing Omaha this month and doing quite well. I have ironed out some of my flaws from over confincdence (looooooose) and have been making a surprisingly good profit. The profit is rapidly approaching five figures from 2000 hands. I am delighted with these results and will be keeping an eye on them with regard to playing 5000 hands per month in future (I am aware some of you guys do 5000 hands in 2 days but that's not for me!). Also played 400 hands of 10 player Omaha low stakes to see if I can beat them 4+ tabling over a decent sample size. I am slightly ahead but time will tell.
Oh I also spunked that $550 on stars so thats an extra $550 i need to make until I am in 5 figure profit territory.

Tournaments
Hardly played any of these - we are talking around 34 on mansion and 5 or 6 elsewhere. The 34 includes $1 all in fests as well (they relax me) and a few sng's so probably only 20 or so MTT's for a combined profit of $200! not really been in the mood for the 8pm games so just playing a few late afternoon rebuys with no real success. I feel my game is in good shape after Ireland and may well switch to them next week for some practice before Dortmund.

Live
Not played at all since Galway. The only game I have planned before Dortmund is a home game at Rorys (mafews) tomorrow night. Its meant to be a friendly game and it will be but the stakes could get high (the line up is spot on for some madness) on the poker or his pool table. I will post an update on Sat r Sunday. Will try to get a game in live in Edinburgh next week before heading off to the Algarve for some golf next Friday then straight to Dortmund.

Its 6am and I am bored watching tennis when I come across this. At 1st i think no problem i could do this for 30k or so then I read teh conditions and know that i would struggle horribly.

I just returned from witnessing one of the most outrageous prop bet setups ever. When most people say, "I bet I could . . .", they are usually speaking colloquially or simply spewing idle bluster. I disapprove of such wasted words, as I believe people should put their money where their mouth is. As it so happens, money has much more powerful predictive power than empty words, but that is neither here nor there.

I have a poker friend, good2cu, who was playing at Bellagio when it was suggested that someone could not live in a Bellagio hotel room bathroom for one month. Anyone who has been to Bellagio poker room regularly will know or have seen Bellagio Jay, a $10-$20 no-limit grinder, who is as much a fixture of the hotel as are the dancing fountains. Somehow, this wager became reality, as Jay risked a modest five-figure amount, receiving 2-1 odds. My close friend did a lot of the work in setting this thing up, so I got to see and hear the details. As far as prop bets go, this one is much more airtight than most. For example, the large sum of money is in escrow in the form of a Bellagio poker room safe deposit box, whose key my intermediary friend possesses. The loser of this wager also has to pay the incidental expenses, which are no small matter since room rates jack up with Chinese New Year, various conventions, and the Super Bowl. Most people don't pay upper four figures in cash at the desk for a hotel room, but was that case here. The sum of the rack rate for a standard room for the next month is $9300 ($799 on February 2)! I suggested that we should have just rented a luxury high-rise unit for a couple of months, so we could at least sub-lease out the unused bedroom and bathroom. Even the daily internet access at $25 will amount to $750 for the month! In addition, a computer was bought for the sole purpose of room monitoring! There are people in this country who could pay living and internet expenses for the entire year for what my buddies have arranged for one month without the main room ever being used! What a waste of a room, although I suppose it is for an honorable gambling cause.

2) Jay was given a Virgin Mobile prepaid cell phone with 400 minutes. (Many people would struggle with this term on its own!) The only reason he said he demanded some cell phone usage is because he has a 10-year-old son who he wants to speak to occasionally.
3) A friend is allowed into the room twice a day for five minutes each. The friend can bring food and minor supplies. Jay is not afforded the use of drugs or other bathroom-endurance performance-enhancing substances. He is also not allowed to talk.

When my friend and I walked into the room to check on Jay and his setup, the room was pitch black. His bathroom has no window, so it is basically solitary confinement with no connection to other people. We talked with him for the hour we were in there, and he seemed truly enthusiastic to be able to speak. He insists this is easy money, but my buddy jokes that he is already going insane, having named his bar of soap and conducted an interview with a bottle of shampoo. Jay jokes that he will learn to read by the time he is out. He said 18 days is the point of no return, although it's still a ways from that. Our initial reason for visiting was to set up a 24-hour live webcam! There are some interesting media possibilities, like doing a video blog or doing a mock "Cribs" episode where he can show off his collection of Capri Sun and his bathtub filled with pillows.

There is hardly any room to stand in there, so if he survives, he may suffer some unintended physical effects. There's tons to write about this, as Jay is quite the character. (When we were discussing golf, my friend said, "I don't shoot par." Jay quipped, "Well, I don't shoot Crips.") He says he can draw on having done time a couple of times. Who knows. There's a huge discussion in an online poker forum as well.

Was going to write a post about trying to multi table my $500 on stars into $10,000 playing 1/2 and 0.5/1 on stars. I was going to survey opinion to see if you ll reckon I could do it or how I would fail. That post got cancelled when I lost 5.5 buy ins in 25 mins playing v v poorly!

I am $1000 up at 5/5 on mansion though since then, so no regrets. It shows what I already know that I am not suited to multi tabling small amounts.

Other things

I may go to Brighton this week. Not sure yet.
I will go Drogeha after Dortmund - really good deep stack tourneys there.

Part deux - 500euro event - Got any Sausages?

Today

Had a good day today. Woke up at 4am!!!! and decided to play a little omaha $5/$5. Played for 2 hours and managed to finish about $1500 ahead. Got to start getting into this early rising lark as thats where I won all my cash in November. Back to sleep from 7am until 12 noon meant that I missed the 1st 2 races at Musselburgh. This included a 14/1 winner that my dad spotted on betfair that he had £50 e/w on. Anyway won the 1st race lost the next 3 and then layed the favs in the Bumper meant a nice profit on the day.

Played a little between 6pm and 9pm tonight, was tired so it was MTT's. A few bad beats and a few careless plays meant that I was none from 5 with only a $100 turbo remaining. I had doubled up in the 1st hand when the cut off ent all in at 10/20 for 1500 and i called with QQ - too good for JJ. But I had lost my chips when my KK was not good enough for A8 on an 8 high flop. I was actually finding stuff on the TV to watch with the GF when I pushed a couple of times after waiting a circuit then next thing I know I am on the FT 7/10. Sat tight and then good stuff happened and I won for $2500 so a nice start to 2008 on all fronts, Live, Online MTT's and Online cash!

Part 2 Ireland

So our table breaks as I am scooping up the 12k pot mentioned below. I am given seat 4 at table 30 and with my 2 racks I look for it. I get to the table and someone is just nestling down in seat 4 so I try to get a 2nd look at my seat card only to drop my 100 pink chips onto the floor. FFS. By the way it was the correct seat they had taken the chair out. Well at least it was only the 100 chips n the floor and I think I got nearly them all back. Great start to my new table. Always good to create that perfect table image eh?

New table was fine. I had 25k 2x average. Seat 1 & 2 looked novicey, 5 was tight, 10 looked a bit tasty though. It was Marcel Luske, my 2nd time playing with him this weekend after my 40 mins on the TV table in the main event. He had about 20k stack and was looking pretty active as expected. This table went well for me in the 2 levels ( 80 mins ) before dinner break. I tried to stay out of Marcel's way without looking like I was (he was playing allot of pots both raising and calling), ie calling a few of his raises with easy to play hands post flop and reraising sporadically to take pots down. All while still looking pretty tight.

Not too many hands of note that I want to mention but a big one came down when the cut off raised to 4x 200bb which was called by the v v loose and stubborn button. I reraised to 2300. Fold and called. The flop came Q73 and I led out 4000 at the pot. He raised to 9000 and I pushed with me Q9 all in. He thought and folded. I had 2x his chips at the start of the hand but it would have dented my stack. I lose Ak v medium short 1010 in the hand before the break. So spend the break steaming and eating shit food.

We get back from the break after eating some cocktail sausages and the like. 1st hand back there are only 4 players and No BB. I raise from UTG with KJ. The medium/small stack pushes from the SB and I know his range is massive as it looks like I am stealing. My KJ is easily good enough to call and he admits he was re-shoving on this basis, but still shows A8 to be ahead. 2 K's on the flop get me the chips I lost pre break and cement me as chip leader on the table. Marcel arrives back after 1 orbit, he has been looking at the wrong clock and I tease him a little about that and ask if he enjoyed his long dinner. He chats a little back and mentions the sausages he had at the break. Now I don't know about you but to me a dutchman saying the word sausages is funny! I get a bit of banter with him and get him to repeat the word a few times and the table has a laugh.

A nice relaxed table and my chip stack increasing what more could I want.

I move to the 2nd last table with 64K 2x average stack and the 2nd largest at my table.I am the 2nd largest stack at teh table and reports reach me that teh largest stack is a complete donk. He has somehow blundered into an 80k chip stack by calling with underpairs and hitting trips apparently. I also remember that he was at my 1st table and was very novicey. So the inevitable happened and also teh only time in the whole tournament that I was all in. 1 orbit in with 18 remaining I raise to 4.5k (3xbb) with JhQh. Novicey calls in the sb and teh BB comes along for the ride. hmmmm. Flop Ks 10s 2h. Novicey leads out for 8k and BB packs. I decide to reraise to give him the message. I look down at my chips and look at a 30k bet but realise that having 25k behind is pointless (this guy also plays by how much u bet is how strong your hand is) I decide to overbet all in. He takes a while and calls (doh!) and then shows As 9s (doh doh doh!). Turn 5h (well at least its not a spade) River Ac. He turns round to celebrate with his wife and has to be told that he lost the massive pot. He took it really well and just laughed. I like guys like this, fair enough they are crap at poker but at least they enjoy themselves - the £10 rebuy moaners could learn alot from these happy go lucky guys!

The rest of the 2 last table was easy enough as I now had 128k (as Marcel pointed out before I had time to count it) out of 650k in play. Our novicey friend departed smiling 1 orbit later, calling all in to a cuttoffs 20k push which was pushed all in by the 30k button. He called on the BB with A8 and didn't beat the KK and QQ. I played the penultimate table in a smiling ruthless manner. In between joking to the table about Marcel's sausages, I was stealing 2 hands per orbit on average and with a blind/ante ratio on 8/1 I was picking up around 4000 a time at bb 1500. I like to smile as I play but it does make it easier when you have lots of chips or no chips!

I am sure I played some exciting hands but I cant for the life of me remember them so I reached a 10 minute break with 12 left with 180k Marcel had 60k which would have been slightly above average chips apart from the fact that I was sitting on a mountain of them meaning he had 2nd biggest out of 7 players. He was raising lots and as I said on my blog post at the time (see below - I even post when I am playing tournaments!) I was going to snap a few raises.

Well I didn't snap any raises as he lost 20k 1st hand back and was sitting at 44k when this hand comes up. Down to 12 he limps sb to my BB (he eliminated the girl to my right last orbit) and I check. so there is 3k +3k + 2400 (antes) in the centre. Flop Js 8h 2d. Check check. turn Qd. check, i bet 3k swiftly called. River 4s 9no flush on board) he bets 15k of his 40k stack. I raise 20k more. What hand do I show to win this pot?

The next orbit round Marcel pushes from the button, I have already give the speech about calling light then I look at my cards lol AA. I call instantly and beat his K2, he departs like the class act he is shaking hands etc. Down to 11 I raise the next 3 hands in a row to take the 8.5k in the pot. I am a bit gutted when the bubble bursts as it was a free 8k to me each time!

Final table was uneventful. blinds 3k/6k 500 ante meant that most stacks (I had 262k out of 640k) meaning their average was 40k and a push fold event. I called 2 pushes from the button or Sb when I looked down to find AA and QQ. I raised a few hands and actually hit 360k with 6 left. Lost a few pots and then lost a nasty pot 4 handed when sb (me)/bb I had J5 flop 678. check, bet. turn J check bet, river 2 check bet call. shown 45 to lose 55k to the aggressive Chinese guy who had shown AK, KK, QQ & JJ earlier on in the space of 5 hands.

Stack sizes at the break were 242k me, 225k Chinese guy behind me, 80k irsh guy and 122k old Irish guy to my right. I dont normally like doing deals but I used ICM at the break to find my worth. I proposed the deal as I had the 2 short stacks to my right and the other big stack to my left - bad table dynamics. Everyone was happy enough with the chip count deal that the organisers proposed but I took 45 off my 11450 and a bit off the Chinese guys amount to round up the shorties numbers to 7k and 8k.

Ireland 500euro event - Thanks Cockatoo

Played the last event of the small festival to take my total outlay to 3375euro (-the 1670 I won on the satellite) so 1700 + around 500 euro expenses.

As i mentioned on the other post the standard in the 750e event was crazy. As in crazy bad. However as I also mentioned I was having sever bank card difficulties. As the event isn't held in a casino there are no card cash facilities available so it has to be ATM's. Well the ATM's were only giving up 380 a day and my $ account is still waiting (after 2 weeks) for a 10k cheque to clear. So by the Sunday I was down to 10e + my 380. This was to prove a problem as the buy in was 550e and it was 2.30pm with a 3pm start. Rob could only withdraw 600 so he had a free 100 leaving me to find 60 euro.

I could borrow it from people I hardly know- which I hate - but as Rob said whats the difference between borrowing 60e or 200e. So it was off to the bookies to see what was on. Fisrtly (and thankfully) they don't have those rigged roulette achines oer there. So it was the greyhounds to start and the 2.42 had a 6/4 fav,it looked awful but hey it was favourite so I backed it. It missed the break and trailed in 5th. Next up there was a race from Plumpton. However there were no short priced one in which to invest my tournament. So it was 50e on each if the 2 favs. Thankfully this one went well and going round the home turn it was a 3 horse race with both of mine involved. Over the 2nd last it was a 2 horse race involving my 2 and Cockatoo romped in to secure me 250e and my seat! :-) A footnote is that the cashier nearly paid out on the forecast - now that would have been a good beat!

So with Cockatoo having secured my entry we headed up to the impressive Raddison hotel. There were only 95 entries and for the 2nd day myself and Rob were at the same 1st table with 7500 starting stacks. (probably due to the fact we register in the last 5 mins when they are adding new tables but still annoying nonetheless) I got going as per the 750e pretty quickly up to 10k without any issues. The only hand of note was when the pre flop English raiser c-bet on a 772 board i check reraised him and he packed 88 face up. I gave him a speech about how most local players couldn't lay that down and wp as I folded Q10. Rob obviously departed a usual, this time with AA getting it all in on a pot after craftily calling the intial raiser only to see a reraiser a caller and he goes all in 1 of the opponents called with QQ and ended up with the 20k pot when the Q came.

I won my 1st big pot of the evening when my raise with JQ was called by the bb. The pot was around 700 and I loved the 10, 10, 9 flop. I bet about 400 after he checked and he flat called. hmmm. The turn brought a smal card and we both checked (I have him on an underpair or maybe a 10 - he was a bit loose but standard local player). The turn brings a sweet 8 and he checks. He bets 800 and I raise to 3000 for value and he puts it all in for another 2500. I don't like this but have to call and am delighted when I don't see a 10 but instead 7J for a smaller straight. Won a nice 4k pot from a tight agg old guy when he couldn't fire the final bullet in a big pt I played well. I raise from cut off with 7h 7d. He calls from the SB with an equal stack to mine we see a 3 diamond flop and I call alot of bets to win 5k when he doesn't improve his AKd hand.

Then i get moved to Marcels table, but I need to go out now so will continue later.

Not like me to do a deal but a deal it was. With blinds at 5k/10k and a 1k ante we chopped with chip stacks of 242k, 225k, 122k and 80k.

The chip count deal that they use on stars and such gave me 11450 but I had already worked out my real equity and made the deal even fairer by giving up my 450 to the 3rd and 4th as well as 250 off the 2nd guys. Everyone was happy with a 11k, 10750, 8k, 7k deal. I was the good guy and I got a trophy.

Loads of hands and situations to go through but v tired now and I have a flight in 7 hours.

Hello

Finished half way down the field in the 800 event yesterday. Cant argue with the cards I got dealt either just played them badly. There was a few key hands but I haven't got much time to go over them now as off to play the 500 game in a few mins.

Apart from the defeats and the fact that I have some illness and the fact that I can get any more than 380 euro out f my bank per day(this is probably a good thing!) I am enjoying the craic. People over here are all decent, even the appalling players have a smile on their faces usually! A total contrast to Scotland or England where people are always scowling or moaning about something. In fact the only bad attitudes I have seen on display have been attached to the end of cockney accents over here.

Anyway yesterdays hand. Was surprised that no one ventured to guess (or at least comment what a train wreck of a hand it was). I wasn't the AQ in the BB, I was the button, BB was a 9 year old who looked v inexperienced.

Lets go through his comedy of errors that made me go broke.

a, calling on the BB out of position against me + 4 other limper's - Does he really want to play a massive pot with AQ out of position? He needs to hit 2 pair here to have any idea where he is. If he folds or re raises (well its better than calling) I win 1650 or lose 2400.

b, The flop - FFS He checks to me I am playing 11k what more does the nuts flush want than 4k of that in the pot and a check raise all in??? How can he call here? - If he check raises I release and lose 6400 but still have 7300.

c, Turn - Fine, but bet and I still don't lose 7000!

d, Checks to me and I bet 95% of my stack. TBH I just picked a number. This is where a good player (ala baz's answer) could have pieced the info together and make a good call based on pot odds and about a 1/3 chance I was bluffing giving him just about bang on the 2/1 he needed. This is where this guy thinks for 10 secs dangles his chips in the air and says call. He then does a wee yes shout when I muck. Chats to his neighbour who comments and heads off to tell his mates about his 12k upswing.

e, post hand. The guy beside me tells me that he said to the BB - were you not scared of the straight on that board? What do you mean a straight. Well the 9 made a straight. Never saw it. AAAaarrrrrrghhhh - if the river comes any other non spade I win the pot with my bet and he doesn't see the freaking straight!!

PS I had 2, 4 off suit!! Heh heh!
